Sinusitis

Sinusitis is known as an infection of the sinuses. The sinuses are cavities filled with air and located within the bones near the nose. Sinusitis occurs when the tissue lining of the sinuses becomes inflamed or swollen. When the sinuses become blocked and filled with fluid due to inflammation, it is referred to as sinusitis. Sinusitis affects people of all ages, and the common causes behind sinusitis include allergies, colds, and infections of the nasal polyps.

Types of Sinusitis

Acute sinusitis: It typically lasts for a short duration and can be caused by a duct obstruction, viral infection, or allergy.

Subacute Sinusitis: Subacute sinusitis typically lasts for 15 to 30 days and can be caused by infections or allergies.

Chronic Sinusitis: Chronic sinusitis can be caused by nasal polyps and persists for more than one month.

Recurrent Sinusitis occurs five or more times a year and is characterised by symptom-free periods between episodes.
