Fungal infections

Fungal infections usually occur when fungi invade the body, affecting the skin, mucous membranes, or internal organs. Fungal infections can cause a range of mild to severe symptoms.

Clinical Features of Fungal Infections

Skin and Nails Fungal Infections: This causes discolouration and eruptions on the nails, accompanied by pain, pus formation, and itching. Ring-shaped eruptions are commonly observed. 

Mucosa: Fungus affects the mucosal membranes of the Vagina or the oral mucosal membranes. Anes, it causes itching, redness, inflammation of the mucous membranes, and white patches on the oral mucosa. 

Respiratory and systemic fungal infections: Invasive candidiasis, also known as mucormycosis, is an invasive fungal infection that causes fever, cough, and pain, leading to systemic tissue degeneration and sepsis. This is a dangerous type of fungal infection.

  • Diagnosis of a fungal infection is based on a detailed medical history and a physical examination. 
  • KOH mIcrscoy test 
  • Fungal culture test 
  • Blood tests, Blood cultures 
  • Mucosal swabs 
  • In severe cases, Imaging tests like CT Scans

  • In severe cases, intensive care and intravenous medications 

Diet and Lifestyle Tips for Fungal Infections 

  • Do not share personal things, clothes or combs 
  • Wear breathable clothing
  • Maintain dryness, especially in warm and humid areas
  • Wash your hands properly after contact with animals or soil
  • Maintain good oral hygiene and hygiene of the genital parts.  
  • Reduce sugar intake 
  • Eat a balanced diet
  • Maintain a proper weight
