Fatigue

Fatigue is a persistent feeling of tiredness, lack of energy, and constant feeling of exhaustion that does not go away with rest. Fatigue can stem from various reasons.

Causes of  Fatigue

  • Nutritional Deficiencies: nutritional deficiencies like Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D deficiencies can cause sonic fatigue
  • Sleep problems like insomnia, Sleep apnea
  • Medical conditions like cancer, thyroid problems, Diabetes mellitus, heart diseases, Liver diseases, Kidney diseases, or other systemic diseases. 
  • Fatigue is related to mental conditions like depression, anxiety, and mental stress.
  • Over exertion
  • Certain medications can cause fatigue, such as cancer therapies and antidepressants. 
  • Lifestyle factors include a Poor diet, Excessive Alcohol Consumption, and a Sedentary lifestyle. 

Types of Fatigue 

  • Acute fatigue typically lasts 1 to 2 weeks and usually resolves with treatment. It is related to overexertion, Acute illness, etc.
  • Chronic Fatigue: If fatigue persists for more than six weeks, it is considered chronic. This fatigue is caused by underlying chronic diseases like thyroid disease, cancer treatment, other chronic medical illnesses, etc.

Characteristics of Fatigue

  • Persistent tiredness, low energy, and weakness are collectively referred to as physical fatigue. 
  • Difficulty thinking, concentrating, and losing focus is known as mental fatigue. 
  • Muscle joint aches 
  • Sleep does not restore the symptoms 

Diagnosis and Treatment of Fatigue

  • Detailed medical history and physical examination 
  • Blood tests to rule out deficiencies or other medical illnesses 
  • Or further imaging tests if required, according to symptoms 

Treatment of Fatigue

  • Oral Medications or Nutritional supplements 
  • Intravenous Medication or Vitamin Therapy 
  • Diet 
  • Treatment of underlying illness 

Lifestyle Tips for Fatigue 

  • Consult a Doctor to rule out the underlying cause and treatment 
  • Do Regular exercise 
  • Eat a balanced Diet 
  • Stress  Management 
  • Adequate sleep 
  • Stay Hydrated, Drink adequate water
