Common cold

The common cold is a common condition that presents with a combination of symptoms such as a runny nose, cough, sneezing and sometimes fever. The common cold should not be considered a minor illness; it requires proper medical treatment, even in its early stages. Initially, a common cold does not cause significant harm, but that does not mean it should not be treated at the first stage. Once you notice symptoms of a common cold, such as a runny nose, a doctor’s consultation is recommended. For example, COVID-19 infection presents symptoms similar to those of a common cold, and then it progresses to fever and, in some cases, the severe stage of pneumonia. Hence, consulting a doctor at the onset of symptoms is essential.

Causes of the Common Cold

Viruses cause inflammation in the nose and throat. Bacterial infections, allergies, and other factors can cause the common cold.

However, if the viral infection is severe and the common cold exacerbates symptoms such as a severe cough, breathing difficulty, or fever, the person should consult a doctor. Such a condition may indicate pneumonia, which requires proper medical treatment.
